Resumo: Aiming to describe the characteristics of 2514 women demographic, socioeconomic, and behavioral aspects of users who requested HIV tests at the Specialized Assistance Service in Canoas, RS, in the year 2009 to 2010 were analyzed. The survey was done through descriptive cross-sectional design using data stored in the Information System of the SAS. The quota of women who sought services, most were on their own initiative, being Caucasian young, unemployed, low education level, where the majority has a matrimonial relationship and so opt for not using condoms. The trajectory of the epidemic suggests that initiatives aimed at protecting against the disease need to consider, within the aspect of feminization of AIDS, the different extracts of the female profile.

The trajectory of the epidemic suggests that initiatives aimed at protecting against the disease need to consider, within the aspect of feminization of AIDS, the different extracts of the female profile.Objetivando descrever as características de 2514 mulheres, foram analisados os aspectos demográficos, socioeconômicos e comportamentais, das usuárias que solicitaram testes anti-HIV no Serviço de Assistência Especializado do município de Canoas/RS, no ano de 2009 a 2010. O levantamento foi feito por meio do delineamento transversal descritivo, a partir dos dados armazenados no Sistema de Informação do SAE. Do contingente de usuárias que procuraram os serviços, a maioria foi por iniciativa própria, sendo jovens caucasianas, desempregadas, com baixo nível escolar. A maior parte das mulheres apresenta um vínculo matrimonial e, por isso, optam pelo não uso de preservativos.
