The Cultural Heritage: social function and interdisciplinary relationships

Resumo: Defining cultural heritage is much more difficult that it seems. The inflation of the concept of culture allows to cover almost every object. We could place the invention of cultural heritage during the French Revolution. Nevertheless, earlier records takes us back to the reliques. This paper does not pretend to the a cultural heritage history. Instead, we aim to frame the main theoretical proposals amid the definition of cultural heritage, to highlight the need of interdisciplinary studies and to offer a general glimpse to the first legislatives works in Latin America.

La inflación del concepto de cultura hace posible incluir casi cualquier objeto. La invención del patrimonio cultural podría tener lugar durante la Revolución Francesa. Sin duda, los antecedentes más lejanos podrían encontrarse en las reliquias. Este artículo no pretende hacer una historia del patrimonio cultural. Sin embargo, nos proponemos esbozar las principales propuestas teóricas en torno a la definición de patrimonio cultural, subrayar la necesidad de estudios interdisciplinarios y ofrecer un panorama de los primeros trabajos legislativos en el continente americano.A definição de patrimonio cultural é uma tarefa mais complicada do que parece. A inflação do conceito de cultura permite incluir praticamente qualquer objeto. A invenção do patrimonio cultural poderia situar-se durante a Revolução Francesa. Sem dúvida, os antecedentes mais distantes poderiam encontrar-se nas reliquias. Este artigo não tem como objetivo fazer uma história do patrimonio cultural.
