Resumo: Often the role of psychoanalysis in discussions on gender is questioned. This article aims to achieve a return to the Freudian theory about the woman and femininity. The first part of the article deals with the conceptions of the feminine from studies on psychological disorders such as hysteria and phobia. The second part lectures on the importance that Freud gave to aspects of social context for the development of women. Freud states that the anatomical difference among sexes is the basis for the distinctions of gender.
