The role of political culture in the process of democratization

Resumo: This paper aims to discuss and relate the role of political culture to the process of democratization. Before convincing itself of the importance of this field of study, it is shown that academia sought the theory of modernization and the theory of rational choice to explain democratization. While understanding the importance of these approaches, it is argued that political culture emerges as a deepening understanding of democratization. The change of social values ends up transforming culture, constituting itself as an indispensable instrument not only for the possibility of democratization, but also for the consolidation of the regime and the quality of democracy.

Embora se compreenda a importância dessas abordagens, defende-se que a cultura política surge como aprofundamento da compreensão da democratização.
