Motor skills development: validity evidences of a new measurement instrument

Introduction: Motor skills development is one the most remembered contents regarding the sports pedagogy literature.Objective: To teste the four-dimensional – Improvement Orientation (IO), Conformation Orientation (CO), Motor Stage Adequation Conformation (MSAC) and Multiple Practices Orientation (MPO) – evaluated by the Motor Skills Development in Sporting Competitions Context Scale (MSDSCCS-14), through factor analysis and intern consistency metric principles.Method: It was used a sample of 108 participants of 20 to 61 years old, both genders, all sports coaches.Results: Exploratory factor analysis’ results (explaining about 50% of the total construct variance) and confirmatory factor analysis’ results (GFI = 0.89; AGFI = 0.83; x2/gl = 1.424; RMSEA = 0.063; PCLOSE = 0.220; CFI = 0.934) allow to conclude that the tested model confirmed the existence of four dimensions (IO, CO, MSAC, MPO). Intern consistency’s results obtained by Cronbach’s Alpha calculation (0.67 to 0.73) ensure relative precision of the measured dimensions and the reliability of its utilization according to the proposed objectives.Conclusions: New studies should explore/test other important metrical qualities of this instrument (content validity and test-retest reliability, among others).
