Orientador: Prof. Dr. Hernán Venegas MarceloThe present study analyzes critically and diachronically the established relationships between the Brumadinho territory and Inhotim art gallery, the largest open air museum in Latin America, located in Minas Gerais state. Inhotim Institute was officialy opened in 2002 and since then Brumadinho municipality has been transformed in various ways. The transformation can be summarized as the following procedures: relocation of the local community to found and expand the museum project; cultural landscape changes ; emergence of tourist flows ; traffic jam in the main streets, especially on the weekends and holidays ; creation of hotels and food stores close to the institute; rise of the land price in the museum surroundings; jobs for the local habitants and close areas; cultural projects in association with communities in the city. In order to support the discussion, I analised such transformations and problems in dialogue with the specialized literature from studies on the field of Memory, Tourism and Museology. It was soon possible to bound an interdisciplinary approach that would allow a problematic reading of the image scene in Brumadinho during the creation, inauguration and operation of the Inhotim Museum. In short, the research finds that the process of implanting an institution like Inhotim in a small city like Brumadinho was intermediated by a symbolic violence conceived by the way the majesty of the project undermines the existence of families and their subjective relations with the place. The relocation of the old Inhotim community and the destruction of its patrimonial goods is one of the violences that this research highlights as an obliteration of their own recent history. In addition, the exchange in the landscape and the place‟s functions has shown the relations of power that the museum intermediates through an interesting aesthetic discussion on museology and, precisely, on the social museum. In summary, the research also demonstrates the complexity and intricated network weaved as consequences of the implementation of a museum such as InhotimEste trabalho estuda de forma crítica e diacrônica as relações estabelecidas entre o território de Brumadinho – MG e o maior museu a céu aberto da América Latina, aí localizado: Inhotim. O Instituto Inhotim foi fundado oficialmente no ano de 2002, e desde então diversas transformações foram acarretadas em Brumadinho. Essas transformações podem ser resumidas assim: reterritorialização da comunidade local para a efetivação e expansão do projeto museal; alteração da paisagem cultural; surgimento de fluxos turísticos; congestionamento de vias municipais, principalmente em finais de semana e feriados; aparição de estabelecimentos hoteleiros e alimentícios nas proximidades da instituição; aumento dos valores dos terrenos ao entorno do museu; empregabilidade gerada para cidadãos locais e de regiões próximas; projetos culturais em parceria com as comunidades existentes no município. Para subsidiar a discussão discorri tais transformações e problemas dialogando com a literatura especializada proveniente dos estudos sobre o campo da Memória, do Turismo e da Museologia. Logo, foi possível delimitar uma abordagem interdisciplinar que permitisse uma leitura problematizante do cenário resultante em Brumadinho no transcurso da criação, inauguração e funcionamento do Museu Inhotim. Em suma, a pesquisa averigua que o processo de implantação de uma instituição como Inhotim em uma cidade pequena como Brumadinho foi intermediado por uma violência simbólica concebida pela forma como a grandiosidade do projeto solapa a existência de famílias e suas relações subjetivas com o local. A reterritorialização da antiga comunidade Inhotim e a destruição de seus bens patrimoniais é uma das violências que a pesquisa mais destaca tendo em vista o apagamento que essa história passou. Ademais a transfomação na paisagem e na função do lugar deu luz às relações de poder intermediadas pelo museu através de uma interessante discussão estética sobre a museologia e mais precisamente sobre o museu social.
