CULTURE AS A DEVELOPING PRINCIPLE IN VIRTUAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Resumo: This study’s objective is to identify culture as a developing principle in learning virtual communities. The discussion’s context was a discipline in the Languages – Portuguese course at the Federal University of Ceara, performed in a semipresential mode, which was composed by 17 students and their respective teacher-tutor. 62 messages in a discussion forum were analyzed according to the concept of culture (Brym et al, 2006), in which the three categories already proposed in literature were used: abstraction, cooperation and production. From the data analysis, culture is comprised as a substantial element in the formation of learning communities in distance contexts.

O contexto de discussão foi uma disciplina do curso de Letras-Português, da Universidade Federal do Ceará, ministrada na modalidade semipresencial, o qual contou com a participação de 17 alunos e seu respectivo professor-tutor. Foram analisadas 62 mensagens de um fórum de discussão à luz do conceito de cultura (Brym et al, 2006), os quais se utilizaram três categorias já propostas na literatura: abstração, cooperação e produção.
