Considerations about Academic and School Algebra: a study in Mathematics Teaching Undergraduate Degrees

Resumo: Through bibliographical study, this article investigated distances and approximations between academic and school algebra in the Pedagogical Projects of six Mathematics Teaching Undergraduate Degrees at the six Federal Universities from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Out of the 34 required subjects related to Academic Algebra, we perceived evidence that in 31, the focus is on studying and mastering specific concepts connected to academic Mathematics. We found evidence of relationships between the concepts studied and K-12 teaching in the other three. In general, we could perceive a more significant discussion of aspects related to School Algebra in the Academic Algebra subjects present in Mathematics Teaching Degrees. Though this is not yet a movement in all courses, they point out important changes in the treatment of Algebra for teacher training.

Los análisis incluyen seis cursos de formación de profesores de Matemática en seis universidades. Del total de 34 asignaturas obligatorias identificadas que tienen relación con el Álgebra Académica, hay indicios de que en 31 de ellas el foco está en el estudio y dominio de conceptos específicos vinculados a la Matemática Académica. En los otros tres, sin embargo, se evidencian relaciones entre los conceptos estudiados y la enseñanza de la Educación Básica. En general, se puede ver una mayor discusión de aspectos relacionados con el Álgebra Escolar en las disciplinas Álgebra Académica presentes en los cursos de Licenciatura en Matemáticas. Aunque no sea un movimiento en todos los cursos, son cambios importantes en el tratamiento del Álgebra para la formación de maestros.Este artigo buscou investigar, na forma de um estudo bibliográfico, distanciamentos e aproximações entre a Álgebra Acadêmica e a Álgebra Escolar nos Projetos Pedagógicos dos Cursos de Matemática Licenciatura nas Universidades Federais do Rio Grande do Sul. As análises contemplam cursos de formação de professores de Matemática de seis universidades. Do total de 34 disciplinas obrigatórias identificadas que possuem relação com a Álgebra Acadêmica, há indícios de que, em 31 delas, o foco está no estudo e domínio de conceitos específicos vinculados à Matemática Acadêmica. Já nas outras três, há evidências de relações entre os conceitos estudados e o ensino da Educação Básica. De forma geral, percebe-se uma maior discussão de aspectos associados à Álgebra Escolar nas disciplinas de Álgebra Acadêmica presentes nos cursos de Matemática Licenciatura.
