Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to study the Brazilian automobile industry in the period 1957/1987.Its objectives are to present: a) some theoretical outlines about the capitalist production process, productivity, employment and wages; b) an overview of the automobile industry, from the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s; c) the evolution of employment, productivity and wages, with emphasis on the evolution of the average real wage in the face of productivity, the wage distribution and the functional distribution of sectoral income. The hypothesis of the work is that the automobile industry has undergone a great transformation in its technical base, providing a huge increase in its production, employment, productivity and wages, while its functional income distribution remained largely favorable to capital.

Los objetivos del trabajo son presentar: a) esquemas teóricos sobre el proceso de producción capitalista, la productividad, el empleo y los salarios; b) una visión general de la industria del automóvil, desde mediados de los años cincuenta hasta mediados de los ochenta; c) la evolución del empleo, la productividad y los salarios, con énfasis en la evolución del salario real promedio en relación con la productividad y para la distribución salarial y la distribución funcional del ingreso sectorial. La hipótesis del trabajo es que la industria automotriz ha experimentado una gran transformación en su base técnica, proporcionando un gran aumento de la producción, el empleo, la productividad y los salarios, pero con una distribución funcional de la renta en el sector en gran medida favorable al capital.O presente artigo tem por objeto o estudo da indústria automobilística brasileira no período 1957/1987. Constituem objetivos do trabalho, apresentar: a) delineamentos teóricos sobre o processo capitalista de produção, a produtividade, o emprego e os salários; b) uma visão geral sobre a indústria automobilística, desde meados dos anos 1950 até meados dos 1980; c) a evolução do emprego, da produtividade e dos salários com destaque para a evolução do salário real médio em face à produtividade e para a distribuição salarial e à distribuição funcional da renda setorial.
