The article is the result of an study of the social and environmental challenges of the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Amazonian Peru, making a contextualization of the region and, subsequently, deepening specific themes. Such topics were discussed along with researchers, policymakers and local leaders, through semi-structured interviews and focus groups: 1) waste disposal in urban areas, 2) the igarapé San Antonio between the twin cities of Tabatinga (BRA) and Leticia (CO), 3) the indiscriminate use of pesticides and other chemicals in the primary production. The results highlight the serious socio-environmental problems in the triple border, pointing to gaps in the understanding of local society regarding the socio-environmental aspects of their territories, showing the lack of articulation between the governmental powers of the three countries. Consequently, the inefficiency of public policies and agencies is revealed.
