The concept of development has always been related to economic growth, attached withthe idea of progress. Generally, the politics of development assumed a exogenousnature, especially those directed to regional and local development. In these cases,organizations and other associative forms existing in the territories are both disregardedwhich ends up generating new forms of inequality.The incorporation of the concept ofsustainability to the with the issue of development places us before the social, human,territorial and enviromental dimensions. This project will discuss the concept ofterritorial development from the strategy of Banco Comunitário de Desenvolvimento (BCD), field expression of the solidary economy and comunitary organizational practiceof mutual support and incentive to local development. The study is directed to theexperiences of the community São Rafael in João Pessoa/PB with the BancoComunitário de Desenvolvimento Jardim Botânico (BCDJB) and use of the social coinOrquídea, analysing the build of the development from the actions and instruments ofBDC in impoverished communities through the local economy, generating newsocioeconomic interactions and the construction of a new reality. This is a studyconducted concurrently with the implementation process of the experience at hand,aiming to contribute to the understanding of community banks in the country.
