Summary: This essay brings the teaching of Geography as an essential tool in school work with Environmental Education (EA). The methodology is a study of bibliographic review in documents, authors and works that address the theme. First, the AE definitions will be contextualized and presented; then the focus will be on teaching Geography. In its trajectory as a science and discipline, Geography shows us its magnitude by forming citizens and instilling in them a critical-reflective sense and knowledge of their living space. We aim to contribute to the upcoming discussions on the subject and enrich the theoretical and bibliographical framework of students, researchers and professors in basic and higher education institutions (HEIs), seeking a harmonious and balanced interaction between man and the environment.

La metodología se trata de un estudio de revisión bibliográfica en documentos, autores y obras que discursan con el tema. Primero, se contextualizarán y se mostrarán las definiciones de EA; a continuación, el enfoque será la enseñanza de Geografía. En su trayectoria como ciencia y disciplina, la Geografía nos muestra su magnitud al formar ciudadanos y en ellos instigar el sentido crítico-reflexivo y conocedor de su espacio de convivencia. Nuestro objetivo es contribuir con las próximas discusiones sobre la temática y enriquecer el marco teórico y bibliográfico de estudiantes, investigadores y docentes en las instituciones de educación básica y de educación superior (IES), buscando interacción armónica y equilibrada entre hombre y medio ambiente.  Este ensaio traz o ensino de Geografia como instrumento essencial no trabalho escolar com a Educação Ambiental (EA). A metodologia trata-se de um estudo de revisão bibliográfica em documentos, autores e obras que discursam com o tema. Primeiro, serão contextualizadas e apresentadas às definições de EA; em seguida, o foco será o ensino de Geografia. Em sua trajetória como ciência e disciplina, a Geografia nos mostra sua magnitude ao formar cidadãos e neles instigar o senso crítico-reflexivo e conhecedor do seu espaço de convivência.
