This paper aims to analyze the historical aspects that led to the construction of the Panama Canal, in order to understand how important this building was for the development of global economic relations, as well as to understand its relevance to political and geopolitical issues from the 19th century until current periods. Through this paper, we aims to understand how the political forces related to this region of great global strategic interest were organized, and how fundamental these were to understand the history of Panama itself and its relations with the history of international relations and international trade. It is also worth mentioning that in the article we seek to bring technical aspects related to maritime trade, which help us to better understand the operations of the canal and emphasize its importance in terms of global trade relations.
