STUDY OF SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IN THE QUARENTA WATERSHED, MANAUS/AM

Resumo: The hydrographic basins are environmental units that allow the realization of studies of integrated analysis of the landscape, inserting the physical and social aspects. The results of a qualitative research on the socio-environmental impacts in the Quarenta watershed are presented in this article. To obtain data and information, geotechnology and cartographic interpretation tools were applied. Direct observation, field supervision, records and interviews helped the investigation and understanding of the forms and modalities of impact throughout the entire basin. The results indicated that the territorial occupation between the lower and middle courses did not present any type of urban planning, showing the complete absence of infrastructure, mainly in sanitation and garbage disposal. Deforestation affects around 70% of the basin area, with vegetation remaining only in the SW-NW sector, which corresponds to the limits of the Manáos Environmental Protection Area. The impacts on the main tributary of the basin have occurred for more than 3 decades, only in the middle of the third decade did the Environmental Sanitation Program implement a sanitation and spatial requalification system in the Quarenta area.

En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una investigación cualitativa sobre los impactos socioambientales en la cuenca del Quarenta. Para la obtención de datos e información se aplicaron herramientas de geotecnología e interpretación cartográfica. A estos procedimientos se suman la observación directa, la supervisión de campo, los registros y las entrevistas, que ayudaron a comprender las formas y modalidades del impacto a lo largo de toda la cuenca. Los resultados indicaron que la ocupación territorial entre los cursos bajo y medio  urbana, denotando la total ausencia de infraestructura, principalmente en cuanto a saneamiento y disposición de basura. La deforestación afecta alrededor del 70% del área de la cuenca, quedando vegetación únicamente en el sector SW-NW, que corresponde a los límites del Área de Protección Ambiental de Manáos. Los impactos en el principal afluente de la cuenca se presentan desde hace más de 3 décadas, recién a mediados de la tercera década el Programa de Saneamiento Ambiental implementó un sistema de saneamiento y recalificación espacial en la zona de QuarentaAs bacias hidrográficas são unidades ambientais que permitem a realização de estudos de análise integrada da paisagem, nos quais se incluem os aspectos físicos e os sociais. Os resultados de uma pesquisa qualitativa sobre os impactos socioambientais na Bacia hidrográfica do Quarenta são apresentados neste artigo. Para a obtenção dos dados e informações, as ferramentas de geotecnologia e interpretação cartográfica foram aplicadas. Adicionam-se a esses procedimentos, a observação direta, as supervisões em campo, os registros e as entrevistas, que auxiliaram o entendimento sobre as formas e modalidades de impacto por toda a extensão da bacia. Os resultados indicaram que a ocupação territorial entre os cursos  inferior e médio não apresentou nenhum tipo de planejamento urbano, denotando-se a completa ausência de infraestrutura principalmente nos itens saneamento e descarte do lixo. Os desmatamentos atingem cerca de 70% da área da bacia, mantendo-se a vegetação apenas no setor SW-NW que corresponde aos limites da Area de Proteção Ambiental Manáos.
