Resumo: The West of Bahia is characterized as a region marked by agribusiness and the expansion of new agricultural frontiers; on the other hand, this same region is also characterized by high concentrations of land, on which the Gini index (GI) is used in this study to measure this socioeconomic phenomenon and its socio-environmental repercussions. Therefore, this article aims to analyze and discuss the relationship between the GI, the use and land cover in this region, based on images from the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor. Using Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing techniques, it was possible to identify the main characteristics and environmental configurations of the areas, based on the land concentration measured by the GI.

Por lo tanto, este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar y discutir la relación entre el IG, el uso y la cobertura del suelo en esta región, con base en imágenes del sensor Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). Utilizando técnicas de Teledetección y Procesamiento Digital de Imágenes, fue posible identificar las principales características y configuraciones ambientales de las áreas, a partir de la concentración de suelo medida por el IG.O Oeste da Bahia caracteriza-se como uma região marcada pelo agronegócio e pela expansão das novas fronteiras agrícolas; em contrapartida, essa mesma região é caracterizada também pelas altas concentrações de terra, sobre as quais emprega-se, neste estudo, o índice de Gini (IG), para mensurar esse fenômeno socioeconômico e com repercussões socioambientais. Diante disso, este artigo tem como objetivo analisar e discutir as relações entre o IG e a o uso e a cobertura da terra nessa região, a partir de imagens do sensor Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS).
