Resumo: In Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) along watercourses, the primary objective is to ensure the quality and protection of water resources. However, in Uruaçu, in northern Goiás, especially near the Passa-Três River, there is a dilemma between the use and conservation of these areas due to negligence in complying with environmental laws. In this context, the study aimed to conduct an analysis of the conservation of the PPA along the Passa-Três River, aiming to contribute to territorial management and the preservation of the water source. To achieve this, the QGIS 3.22 software was used, respecting the criteria of the Forest Code (Law No. 12,561/2012) for the delimitation of the PPA, and the subsequent evaluation of environmental quality based on the mapping developed by the MapBiomas Project, year 2021. The results showed that only 12.66% of the PPA is preserved, while 87.34% are in inadequate conditions, mainly occupied by pastures (36.41%), areas with little native vegetation or exposed soil (29.58%), constructions (18.59%), and agricultural activities (2.75%). The lack of vegetation along the PPA's margins increases the risk of erosion and sediment accumulation, impairing water supply. Therefore, restoration actions are essential for the proper planning and management of these areas designated for preservation.

Editora Unimontes2023-11-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigoapplication/pdfhttps://www.periodicos.unimontes.br/index.php/cerrados/article/view/681710.46551/rc24482692202328Revista Cerrados; v. 21 n. 02 (2023): Revista Cerrados; 283-3012448-26921678-8346reponame:Revista Cerrados (Montes Claros.
