Lavrado of Roraima: environmental paradigms in the counterpoint of compensation and forest replacement

The Lavrado of Roraima is the Brazilian part of the largest continuous area of savanna in the Northern Amazon, comprising about 43,000 km2 or ~19% of the state's area. It has environments extremely fragile where the ecological processes and the functioning of different ecosystems are still poorly studied. The aims were: to systematize the general knowledge about the Lavrado of Roraima; detail the Lavrado in terms of vegetation cover at the level of their phytophysiognomies and; indicate the wood volume and the number of tree individuals as parameter for its use in forest reposition in areas licensed for alternative land use. Whole systematization of information and details referring to the ecological and structural attributes of the different savanna phytophysiognomies forming in the Lavrado was carried out consulting the specialized literature. Data from 22 scientific works were compiled, 78% of which addressed to the species diversity or the phytophysiognomies of the Lavrado. Three works directly studied the biomass content of tree individuals in the Lavrado area. The most studied phytophysiognomies were Parkland Savanna with 10 works, Grassy-woody Savanna and Grassy-woody Savanna. The compilation systematized a robust data set for the elaboration of new public policies to regulate compensation and forest reposition in the Lavrado of Roraima.
