The study of the geological occurrence of a hydrographic watershed is important, as it shows the contribution to the river system. This study aimed to characterize the geological occurrence in the Upper Paraguay watershed, its influence on water availability and maintenance of the Pantanal de Cáceres, Mato Grosso – Brazil. The procedures for characterization of geological units through technical reports CPRM (geodiversity), the drainage density of the Upper Paraguay watershed was performed through the insertion and cutting of the drainage network. For data collection and mapping of geological aspects, it used the information provided in the technical reports CPRM and RADAMBRASIL. Data/files were processed and manipulated in ArcGIS software environment, version 10.3. Obtaining/preparing the density map was performed by inserting and cutting out the drainage network, using ArcGis. The results obtained showed that the recharge/abstraction area stands out for the lithological occurrences of the Utiariti Formation, the Araras Formation and the Santa Helena Intrusive Suite. The other lithological occurrences provide surface runoff. The drainage density ranged from low to very high. Studying the geological influence on water availability is fundamental to planning and management.
