The production of urban spaces as a dynamic process that permeates the social, political, cultural and economical dimensions materializes in the city in many aspects, changing its morphology, extent, landscape and social content. Currently, the modern capitalism, as a production basis in the city, finds in its actors and agents involved in the construction of urban spaces the conditions of shaping those spaces following their own perspectives. In this context, the city expands horizontally from the incorporation of new areas into the urban fabric and vertically through the construction of buildings. In this perspective, this article examines the production of closed condominiums and enclosed lots, as well as the process of verticalization in the medium city of Montes Claros /MG after 1970. Therefore, it aims at questioning the role of the agents of urban spaces concerning the emergence of these new patterns of housing, business, or both, and, consequently, in the city expansion, real estate speculation, as well as changing their spatial, infrastructural and socio-cultural contents.
