Resumo: This study have as objective to analyze the natural and anthropogenic conditions of erosion processes in the Formoso River Basin located in Buritizeiro (MG). The methodology used to have ground was library review, analyse of mapps of the study area and interpretation of satellite images Landsat 3/ETM the same in 1976 and 2006 to assess the development of activities of use and occupancy of the area. The work is divided into three sections: the first presents the general characteristics of the study area, the second treat of natural conditions erosion processes in the basin analysis, the third part is devoted to the anthropogenic conditions, and finally made are the finals considerations. Therefore, we find that the natural conditions added the activities of inappropriate use and occupation of the area, have contributed significantly to the expansion and acceleration of erosion processes in the Formoso River Basin.

A metodologia utilizada pauta-se em revisão bibliográfica, análise cartográfica da área de estudo e interpretação de imagens de satélite Landsat 3/ETM da mesma, em 1976 e 2006, para avaliar o desenvolvimento das atividades de uso e ocupação da área. O trabalho divide-se em três secções: a primeira apresenta as características gerais da área de estudo; a segunda aborda os condicionantes naturais dos processos erosivos na bacia hidrográfica em análise; a terceira parte dedica-se às condicionantes antropogênicas e, por fim, tece-se as considerações finais.
