Resumo: | The registration of a Geographical Indication (GI) is given to a specific originating product or service that has its own characteristics arising from its link with the territory. There are a variety of products protected by IG in Brazil, including Wines and Sparkling Wines, totaling 08 registrations between the years 2002 and 2020. These GI are concentrated in the South Region, however there is also potential in other locations. In this context, the objective of this article is to present the potential of wines from the Vale do Submédio São Francisco region to obtain the IG seal. To this end, the Google Scholar and Scielo databases were consulted to collect data on wine GIs, as well as documents from institutions such as the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). The results indicate the occurrence of few publications directly related to the object of study and that these bring a greater focus to the registration and regulation of the referred indications. In addition, the originality and identity of wines from Valley of Submediate São Francisco is highlighted, guaranteed by the characteristics of the region in which the grapes are produced and by the substances present in the drinks, making clear the potential for obtaining GI registration. |
