The municipality of Buritizeiro, located in the North of the State of Minas Gerais in the Southeast region, once rich in water resources suffered from the early 20TH century, 70 with the capitalist model deployment in rural areas which, among other negative impacts, left a legacy of shortage of water supply for the rural communities that resisted the rural exodus. One of the main actors who contributed to the maintenance of the population who still live in the countryside was the Autonomous Water and Sewerage Service of Buritizeiro-SAAE. Since the year 2001 the SAAE instala and maintenance of water supply systems ruralchegandoà brand of thirty communities met, covering approximately 86.17% of population ruralburitizeirense. The numberspoint to a successful experience that goes against Federal law 11,445/2007 favorecendo a universalization of water supply service and maintenance inthe field. The experience of SAAE Buritizeiro points to possibilities of research and formulation of public policies that subsidize the Municipal sanitationpublic services to provide this important service, especially in regions that suffered from developmental policies and whose climate requires long periodsof drought.
