Resumo: The school lunch is an important element both in the nutritional recovery of children, as so to avoid future problems of obesity. The family farming also directed towards food security and nutritional of children and young people in a school age is guided by sustainability and agricultural diversifi cation in the region, for adequate and safe food as provided by law. Thus, this study seeks to understand the Law 11.947/2009 which ensures better quality school meals from the insertion of the products coming from the family farming and also because of the sustainable development in this reproduction of the rural areas. And thus, show that family farming is an important strategy in the appropriation of social, economic and environmental benefi ts as well as possible ways to achieve food security and nutrition of children and young people in a school age. To achieve the proposed objectives we sought a methodological way of literature review and fi eld research.

A agricultura familiar voltada também para a segurança alimentar e nutricional de crianças e jovens em idade escolar pauta-se na sustentabilidade e diversifi cação agrícola da região, na alimentação saudável e adequada conforme estabelecido na lei. Sendo assim, o presente trabalho busca conhecer a Lei 11.947/2009 que garante melhor qualidade na merenda escolar a partir da inserção dos produtos advindos da agricultura familiar e ainda pelo desenvolvimento sustentável presente na reprodução do meio rural. E dessa forma, mostrar que a agricultura familiar é uma estratégia importante na apropriação de benefícios sociais, econômicos e ambientais bem como os possíveis caminhos para se alcançar uma segurança alimentar e nutricional de crianças e jovens em idade escolar.
