ECONOMIC, ENVIRONMENTAL AND DURABILITY ADVANTAGES OF LED LAMPS IN COMPARISON TO FLUORESCENT TUBE LAMPS

Resumo: | This academic paper aims to analyze energy efficiency in lighting, analyze applicable environmental legislation and identifying the cost-benefit ratio of economic and durability factors between fluorescent tube lamps and LED lamps. An information collection was made via literature readings on economic, environmental and durability issues of LED and fluorescent tube lamps. The analyzed data were subdivided in stages, for better understanding, being: cost of kWh in residential consumption; lamps cost; technical specifications of fluorescent tube and LED lamps; economic and durability factors; laws regarding the disposal of residues and components present in both lamps. The results show that LED lamps cost more than fluorescent tube ones, however they are cost-effective, as their durability is proven to be much more viable as they are approximately 50% more durable than fluorescent tube lamps. Regarding environmental issues, tubular fluorescent lamps contain heavy materials in their composition, such as mercury – a material absent from LED. In conclusion, comparing cost-benefit and environmental issues, LED is more advantageous than fluorescent tube lamps. |

Foi realizada uma coleta de informações na literatura sobre questões econômicas, ambientais e de durabilidade de lâmpadas LED e fluorescente tubular. Os dados analisados foram subdivididos em fases, para melhor compreensão, sendo elas: custo do Kwh em consumo residencial; custo do modelo das lâmpadas; especificações técnicas da lâmpada fluorescente tubular e LED; fatores econômicos e de durabilidade; leis referentes a destinação dos resíduos e componentes presentes nas lâmpadas fluorescentes tubular e LED. Os resultados mostram que a Lâmpada de LED (LED) possui um custo econômico maior do que a lâmpada fluorescente tubular, mas ao final seu custo-benefício é compensador. Quanto à sua durabilidade, a LED mostrou-se bem mais viável, pois ela é aproximadamente 50% mais durável do que a outra. Em relação a questões ambientais, a fluorescente tubular possui em sua composição materiais pesados, como o mercúrio, material ausente na LED.
