Resumo: This study aims to foster discussion about the influence of environmental legislation on innovation strategies adopted by companies in order to prevent and/or control the environmental impacts of their production activities. The central objective is based on the description and analysis of how environmental legislation impacts the incorporation of environmental innovation strategies. This research encompasses an interdisciplinary study between Environmental Law and Strategic Management. We discuss the strategies and innovative technologies, including an examination of the Brazilian environmental legislation, and, analyze the interface strategies and pertaining legislation in two companies studied. To achieve our goals, we used qualitative and descriptive research. This included exploratory interviews and field surveys with two companies from the pulp and paper sector.  As a result, we found the influence of regulations can not only promote the implementation of strategies, but are also reflected in business competitiveness.  In fact, law is often coercive and determines the way firms conduct and establish environmental standards, consequently promoting improvement in production processes by reducing the inefficiency of consumption.

El objetivo central se basaenladescripción y análisis de lalegislación ambiental reflejada a laincorporación de laestrategia de innovación ambiental. Esta investigación aporta a su contenido, unestudiointerdisciplinario entre elDerechoAmbiental y Gestión Estratégica, en las que se discutieronlasestrategias y tecnologíasinnovadoras, por lo tanto, unexamen de lalegislación ambiental brasileña y, por último, unanálisis de lasestrategias de lainterfaz y la legislación de las dos empresas. Para lograrlo, se utilizólainvestigación cualitativa, descriptiva y también de pesquisa de campo, donde se llevaron a cabo entrevistas en dos empresas de lapulpa y el papel. Como resultado, parece que la influencia de lasregulaciones no sólopuede promover laimplementación de estrategias, como también se puedereflejaren competitividad empresarial. Tambiénrecomienda que laley se invertirá por lacondición decoercitividaddelcomportamiento de las empresas, elestablecimiento de normas ambientales a seguir y por lo tanto mejoraelproceso de producción para reducirlaineficienciadel consumo. Este estudo tem como propósito fomentar a discussão acerca da influência da legislação ambiental sobre as estratégias de inovação adotadas pelas empresas com vistas a prevenir e/ou controlar os impactos ambientais decorrentes de suas atividades produtivas. O objetivo central funda-se na descrição e na análise de como a legislação ambiental se reflete na incorporação de estratégias de inovação ambiental. Esta pesquisa faz um estudo interdisciplinar de Direito Ambiental e Administração Estratégica, abordando as estratégias e tecnologias de inovação e examinando a legislação ambiental brasileira para realizar uma análise da interface das estratégias e da legislação em duas empresas. Para a consecução do objetivo proposto, utilizou-se de pesquisa qualitativa descritiva-exploratória ede pesquisa de campo, com a realização de entrevistas em duas empresas do setor de papel e celulose. Como resultado constata-se que a influência das regulamentações não somente pode favorecer a implantação de estratégias, como também pode se refletir na competitividade empresarial.
