As a result of growing demand for dairy cattle products, the activity of dairy cattle has been undergoing a series of technological changes. However, along with increased milk production has increased the generation of solid, liquids and gases residues, causing that the intensive production of dairy cattle is pointed as a major source of environmental pollution. In this context, the work aimed to develop na alternative technology for the treatment of liquid residue from the cleaning of the stables of dairy cattle. Therefore, the methodology included a study to identify steps, variables and relevant parameters of the process of milk production; a diagnostic (economic, environmental and social) around the activity of dairy cattle in Paraná state; the identification of the potential for water consumption and generation of liquid residue; the development, construction and operation of a prototype, based on the processes of sedimentation, flotation and disinfection the liquid clarified by solar radiation and evaluating the effectiveness of the technology based on the analysis of agreement with environmental legislation. The results showed satisfactory reduction in the concentrations of the analyzed parameters, especially for BOD, COD and Total Nitrogen. In the case of the disinfection system with solar radiation the best results were obtained after 24 hours of sun exposure. Thus the alternative methodology and technology for the treatment of effluent from the cleaning of the stables of dairy cattle was efficient.
