Resumo: This thesis started from reflections on the theory of depatriarchalization, by María Galindo, in the works of Kate Chopin and Marina Colasanti, focusing on the ways in which the female characters of their short stories found to subvert the patriarchal structures that were among them. I defended the thesis that decolonialization could be understood as depatriarchalization, that is, according to Du Plessis (1985), if women can be considered as a metaphor of the colony, the decolonial thinking is related to a sense that Chopin and Colasanti’s writings could be considered as a practice of decolonializing, that is, depatriarchalizing. During the research on the theme, I came up with some questions that stood out as a guide to this research: which are the features in the writers’ works that represent (or not) the depatriarchal thinking in their specific contexts? How do they interconnect? In order to find answers to these problematizations, I aimed at revisiting and analyzing, through compared literature, short stories by Kate Chopin and Marina Colasanti, in a depatriarchal perspective. As specific goals, I defined: through the metaphorical axes of the whore, the indian and the lesbian, stated by Galindo as the axes of patriarchy, I analyzed how the characters of the short stories subverted the meaning contained in these axes, in order to show depatriarchalization; 2) considering that colonialism and patriarchalism may have a different connotation in the USA and in Brazil, I sought, simultaneously the analysis, to reflect on the depatriarchal thinking in the works of the writers from the elements which connected or diverged them. In this sense, I investigated how, in the literary text, the notion of depatriarchalization was built in the choices of the characters who are set in different contexts and time. In order to achieve the proposed goals, I based this research mainly on the theoretical assumptions of depatriarchalization (GALINDO), decolonial studies (MIGNOLO; QUIJANO) and on decolonial feminism (LUGONES; CURIEL). It was, therefore, a critical analytical research, guided on compared literature methodology, that intended to analyze short stories set on different periods of Chopin and Colasanti’s works. Data collection was possible through bibliographic research. As a result of this process of investigation, from the literary analysis based on Galindo’s metaphorical axes, I could conclude that Chopin and Colasanti’s short stories express, through the construction of the characters, the plot, the setting, the thematic and aesthetic development, a subversion of the concepts of whore, indian and lesbian, by bringing a resignification to the terms, in order to express depatriarchalization through literature. Thus, it was possible to understand that depatriarchalization is a process for cultural decolonization and thinking, which can only be effective with women’s freedom.

He argumentado que la descolonización puede pensarse en el sentido de despatriarcalización, es decir, si, según Du Plessis (1985), la mujer puede ser entendida como una "metáfora de la colonia", el pensamiento decolonial se correlaciona en el sentido de que los escritos de Chopin y Colasanti deben considerarse como una práctica de descolonizarse, es decir, "despatriarcalizarse". En el curso de la investigación sobre la temática, me surgieron algunas preguntas que se destacaron por guiar esta investigación: ¿cuáles son los elementos presentes en la cuentística de las autoras seleccionadas que demarcan/representan (o no) el pensamiento despatriarcal insertado en sus contextos específicos? ¿Cómo las autoras se interconectan? Para encontrar respuestas a estas problematizaciones, tracé, como objetivo general, revisitar y analizar cuentos de Kate Chopin y de Marina Colasanti, con el sesgo de la literatura comparada, desde una perspectiva despatriarcal. Como objetivos específicos, delimité: 1) a través de los ejes metafóricos de la puta, la india y la lesbiana, instituidos por Galindo como ejes del patriarcado, analicé cómo los personajes de los cuentos seleccionados subvierten los sentidos contenidos en tales ejes, para dar muestras de la despatriarcalización; 2) considerando que el colonialismo y el patriarcalismo puede tener una connotación diferente en los EE.UU. y en Brasil, busqué, concomitantemente al análisis, reflexionar acerca del pensamiento despatriarcal en la escritura de las autoras seleccionadas desde los puntos que las conectaron o en los que divergieron. En este sentido, investigué cómo, en el texto literario, está construido el sentido de libertad o despatriarcalización en las elecciones de personajes que se ajustan a diferentes contextos y épocas. Para lograr los objetivos propuestos, basé la investigación, principalmente, en los supuestos teóricos de la despatriarcalización (GALINDO), de los estudios decoloniales (MIGNOLO; QUIJANO) y del feminismo decolonial (LUGONES; CURIEL). Fue, por lo tanto, una investigación centrada en la metodología de la literatura comparada, con sesgo crítico-analítico, que propuso analizar cuentos pertenecientes a diferentes períodos de la obra de Chopin y Colasanti. La recolección de datos fue posible a través de la investigación bibliográfica. Como resultado de este proceso de investigación, a partir del análisis literario guiado por los ejes metafóricos postulados por Galindo, pude concluir que los cuentos de las autoras seleccionadas expresan, por medio de la construcción de los personajes, del enredo, del ambiente, del desarrollo temático y estético, una subversión de los conceptos de puta, india y lesbiana, al traer una resignificación a los términos, para expresar la despatriarcalización a través de la literatura. Por lo tanto, fue posible comprender que la despatriarcalización es un proceso para la descolonización cultural y del pensamiento en su conjunto, que solo puede ser efectiva con la liberación de las mujeres.Esta tese partiu de reflexões acerca da teoria da despatriarcalização, de María Galindo, na contística da escritora estadunidense Kate Chopin e da brasileira Marina Colasanti, tendo como foco as formas com que as personagens femininas de seus escritos encontraram para subverter os ditames patriarcais que as cerceavam. Defendi a tese de que a decolonialização pode ser pensada no sentido de despatriarcalização, ou seja, se, de acordo com Du Plessis (1985), a mulher pode ser entendida como uma “metáfora da colônia”, o pensamento decolonial se correlaciona no sentido de a escrita de Chopin e de Colasanti ser pensada como uma prática de se decolonizar, isto é, se “despatriarcalizar”. No decorrer da pesquisa sobre a temática, despontaram-me alguns questionamentos que se destacaram como norteadores desta investigação: quais são os elementos presentes na contística das autoras selecionadas que demarcam/representam (ou não) o pensamento despatriarcal inserido em seus contextos específicos? Como elas se interconectam? Com o propósito de encontrar respostas a essas problematizações, tracei, como objetivo geral, revisitar e analisar contos de Kate Chopin e de Marina Colasanti, pelo viés da literatura comparada, em uma perspectiva despatriarcal. Como objetivos específicos, delimitei: 1) Por meio dos eixos metafóricos da puta, da índia e da lésbica, instituídos por Galindo como eixos do patriarcado, analisei como as personagens dos contos selecionados subvertem os sentidos contidos em tais eixos, de modo a dar mostras da despatriarcalização; 2) considerando que o colonialismo e o patriarcalismo poderiam ter uma conotação diferente nos EUA e no Brasil, busquei, concomitante à análise, refletir acerca do pensamento despatriarcal na escrita das autoras selecionadas a partir dos pontos que as conectavam ou em que divergiam. Nesse sentido, averiguei de que forma, no texto literário, se construiu o sentido de liberdade ou de despatriarcalização nas escolhas de personagens que se inscrevem em contextos e épocas diferentes. No intuito de alcançar os objetivos propostos, baseei a pesquisa, principalmente, nos pressupostos teóricos da despatriarcalização (GALINDO), dos estudos decoloniais (MIGNOLO; QUIJANO) e do feminismo decolonial (LUGONES; CURIEL). Tratou-se, portanto, de uma pesquisa voltada para a metodologia da literatura comparada, com viés crítico-analítico, que se propôs a analisar contos pertencentes a diferentes períodos da obra de Chopin e de Colasanti. O levantamento de dados foi possível por meio da pesquisa bibliográfica. Como resultado desse processo de investigação, a partir da análise literária norteada pelos eixos metafóricos postulados por Galindo, pude concluir que os contos das autoras selecionadas expressam, por meio da construção das personagens, do enredo, ambientação, desenvolvimento temático e estético, uma subversão dos conceitos de puta, índia, e lésbica, ao trazer uma ressignificação aos termos, de modo a expressar a despatriarcalização por meio da literatura. description This thesis started from reflections on the theory of depatriarchalization, by María Galindo, in the works of Kate Chopin and Marina Colasanti, focusing on the ways in which the female characters of their short stories found to subvert the patriarchal structures that were among them. I defended the thesis that decolonialization could be understood as depatriarchalization, that is, according to Du Plessis (1985), if women can be considered as a metaphor of the colony, the decolonial thinking is related to a sense that Chopin and Colasanti’s writings could be considered as a practice of decolonializing, that is, depatriarchalizing. During the research on the theme, I came up with some questions that stood out as a guide to this research: which are the features in the writers’ works that represent (or not) the depatriarchal thinking in their specific contexts? How do they interconnect? In order to find answers to these problematizations, I aimed at revisiting and analyzing, through compared literature, short stories by Kate Chopin and Marina Colasanti, in a depatriarchal perspective. As specific goals, I defined: through the metaphorical axes of the whore, the indian and the lesbian, stated by Galindo as the axes of patriarchy, I analyzed how the characters of the short stories subverted the meaning contained in these axes, in order to show depatriarchalization; 2) considering that colonialism and patriarchalism may have a different connotation in the USA and in Brazil, I sought, simultaneously the analysis, to reflect on the depatriarchal thinking in the works of the writers from the elements which connected or diverged them. In this sense, I investigated how, in the literary text, the notion of depatriarchalization was built in the choices of the characters who are set in different contexts and time. In order to achieve the proposed goals, I based this research mainly on the theoretical assumptions of depatriarchalization (GALINDO), decolonial studies (MIGNOLO; QUIJANO) and on decolonial feminism (LUGONES; CURIEL). It was, therefore, a critical analytical research, guided on compared literature methodology, that intended to analyze short stories set on different periods of Chopin and Colasanti’s works. Data collection was possible through bibliographic research. As a result of this process of investigation, from the literary analysis based on Galindo’s metaphorical axes, I could conclude that Chopin and Colasanti’s short stories express, through the construction of the characters, the plot, the setting, the thematic and aesthetic development, a subversion of the concepts of whore, indian and lesbian, by bringing a resignification to the terms, in order to express depatriarchalization through literature. Thus, it was possible to understand that depatriarchalization is a process for cultural decolonization and thinking, which can only be effective with women’s freedom.
