Vitamin D intake during the COVID-19 pandemic and health impacts: a systematic review

Resumo: During the COVID-19 pandemic, vitamin D consumption was highly indicated by the actions on the immune system. This study describes vitamin D intake during the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on health through systematic review, following the Prisma method. Five databases were used (PubMed, BVS, Scopus, CAPES and Embase). Of the 163 articles found, 11 were selected after eligibility criteria. Nine associated vitamin D deficiency with COVID-19, one assessed vitamin D administration in survivor rate and one analyzed the amount and values of vitamin D acquisition. Vitamin D levels in the pandemic are lower, as is exposure to the sun, the main form of vitamin synthesis. Studies have shown lower levels in more severe cases and greater need for non-invasive ventilation. Further studies of high levels of evidence are recommended.

Este estudo descreve o consumo de vitamina D durante a pandemia de COVID-19 e seu impacto na saúde através de revisão sistemática, seguindo o método Prisma. Foram utilizadas cinco bases de dados (PubMed, BVS, Scopus, CAPES e Embase). Dos 163 artigos encontrados, 11 foram selecionados após critérios de elegibilidade. Nove relacionaram a deficiência de vitamina D com COVID-19, um avaliou a administração de vitamina D na taxa de sobreviventes e um analisou a quantidade e valores da aquisição da vitamina D. Os níveis de vitamina D na pandemia são menores, assim como a exposição ao sol, principal forma de sintetização da vitamina. Os estudos mostraram níveis mais baixos em casos mais graves e maior necessidade de ventilação não invasiva.
