PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES: A CASE STUDY

Resumo: This study aimed to identify a vision of the school community (pedagogical team, teachers and pupils) with regard to objectives, importance, purposes and evaluation of Physical Education in schools. The study uses a methodology based in the qualitative approach. Through a case study, developed in a school from the state system, the collection of data was done, with the application of a questionnaire containing both open and closed questions and a semi-structured interview, interpreted through the analysis of the content. The results obtained suggest a restricted vision with regards to Physical Education, being solely obtained from a physical and sportive point of view. It is concluded that in spite of the school community’s awareness of the importance of physical education in the formation of the pupil, its objectives according to the aforementioned community are solely restricted to the physical development and the practice of sports, which renders the whole process incomplete and contributes to the loss of status and value of the discipline and thus limits its field of action.

Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar a visão da comunidade escolar (equipe pedagógica, professores e alunos) quanto aos objetivos, importância, finalidades e avaliação da Educação Física escolar. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se na abordagem qualitativa. Através de um estudo de caso, desenvolvido em uma escola da rede municipal de ensino, fez-se a coleta dos dados, com aplicação questionário, composto por questões abertas e fechadas e entrevista semiestruturada, interpretados através da análise de conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos sugerem uma visão restrita para com a Educação Física, sendo ela tida apenas do ponto de vista físico e esportivo.
