Resumo: OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe fight-related injuries in Muay Thai fighters from a fighting academy located in the city of Cascavel (State of Paraná/Brazil). METHODS: The study was characterized as an epidemiological descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study. The participants were 17 fighters of both sexes, with age equals to or older than 18 years old and with a minimum practice time of six months. The data collection protocol involved a medical evaluation form and/or imaging exams, in addition to a self-applied questionnaire about fight-related injuries. The data was analyzed using quantitative methods of descriptive statistics, such as distribution of the total and relative frequencies. RESULTS: The Muay Thai fighters suffered fight-related injuries (88.2%), with 28 injuries predominantly of traumatic origin (71.5%), mainly occurring in training sessions (57.1%). The lower limbs were more affected (29%) and the main diagnoses were muscle contusion (25%) and sprain (21.4%). All injured fighters received medical and/or physical therapy assistance, however, some injuries did not reach complete healing (26.6%). The execution of correct techniques (40%) and good warm-up (25%) were identified as prevention strategies for fight-related injuries.CONCLUSION: The Muay Thai promotes imminent risks of fight-related injuries to fighters, with a high tendency to traumatic injuries affecting the lower limbs during in training sessions.
