Sports nursing professional acting: a brief review

BACKGROUND: Sports nursing is a care specialty aimed at providing assistance in the search for prevention, promotion and rehabilitation of the patient/athlete. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to synthesize knowledge about the role of nursing professionals within the provision of care in the sports context. METHODS: This is a narrative literature review, qualitative in nature, carried out from June to August 2021 in the Virtual Health Library and in Academic Google with the descriptors “nursing”, “nursing care” and “sports”, to answer the guiding question “What is the role of nursing in the care provided in the context of care in sports practice?”RESULTS: It was observed that nursing acts by intervening and guiding physical activity practitioners about their complaints, collecting history, promoting necessary guidance and referrals. Nursing is also involved in rehabilitation actions and in sports urgencies and emergencies in order to be able to identify the real health needs and provide guidance for adequate follow-up or treatment. CONCLUSION: Therefore, the role of nurses in health promotion, injury prevention and rehabilitation of actions aimed at the practitioner of physical activity is perceived, although historically their majority action is aimed at sports emergencies. Thus, the vision for the promotion of effective care to groups that need such assistance should be expanded, as well as the need to expand the existing literature on this performance is highlighted.
