Formal and informal employment: an analysis for the Mato Grosso do Sul State

Resumo: The aim of this paper is to characterize the level of employment in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, considering a historical period. Based on data from the National Research of Sample for Domiciles, intended to compare the indicators of employment with the data from the Centro-Oeste region, making an analysis of employment in this region. The results show that the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, there is a tendency to formalization of employment and, conversely, a reduction of informality. In the period 2001-2008, there was an increase from 27.58% in employment formal and a decrease of 24.14% in employment without a formal contract.

Com base nos dados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios, pretende-se comparar os indicadores de emprego com os dados da região Centro-Oeste, fazendo uma análise do nível de emprego nesta região. Os resultados mostram que no estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, há uma tendência à formalização do emprego e, em contrapartida, uma redução da informalidade.
