One of the prevailing paradigms in the discussion about necessary changes in education is the idea of providing experiences that enable an active learning for the students. Above all, developing and improving core competencies for their lives, such as collaboration, empathy, autonomy and creativity. Capacities that find in the artistic practice an important ally. Thus, the text presents a reflection on the possible contributions between art education and the demands of the 21st century through a point of view interested in reflecting on a possible more utilitarian and practical dimension of the relationship between art and education. That is why the skills developed by art education are some of the most fundamental to the world today, capable of permeating cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions. Thus, in addition to explaining these issues through art education authors, it is also presented some examples of researches and educational practices that already showed how the connection between art and education is one of the most relevant issues for initiatives seeking to promote active and meaningful learning.
