Resumo: | Background and Objectives: This study is part of the field of knowledge assessment, specifically involving Nursing professionals and the occurrence of adverse effects, and may consist of an avoidable illness. In this way, the objective was to analyze the level of information of the nursing team about the adverse events in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Methods: Cross-sectional study, carried out in an ICU of a state hospital in the interior of Pernambuco, Brazil, with 27 members of the Nursing team. The collection was carried out in the period of July 2013 through a questionnaire based on the Predisposition to Occurrence of Adverse Events Scale and the data were analyzed through descriptive statistics in the Epi-Info software 3.5. Results: The nursing staff had knowledge about the definition of adverse events (77.8%), but related to the patient's underlying disease (22.2%); in addition, they did not have a structure to prevent or notify, and the process of care developed in the ICU favored it. Conclusion: The structural and patient care issues favor the incidence of adverse events, which increase by not identifying the risks and not promoting preventive and educational activities with those involved. |
