Water management and governance: overview of Brazilian scientific production from 1999 to 2019

Resumo: The purpose of this article is to explore trends and research patterns on the theme of governance with an emphasis on water management in Brazil over the past 20 years and to discuss how efficient water resource management can contribute to regional development. The analysis focused on identifying the main theoretical references and the fundamental themes addressed in the selected studies. We seek to understand the role of governance in relation to the management of water resources in Brazil, and the role of civil society in this process based on the analysis of selected articles. The methodology is characterized by a bibliometric research that identifies the scientific behavior of the area in order to form a diagnostic about what are the main publications related to the theme of water management and governance. The results founded identified that there is a high interest of the scientific community in this field of study. It highlights that there is a need for deepening of knowledge and conceptual base on this subject. Therefore, this work helps to provide guidance for research opportunities in this field of studies.

Therefore, this work helps to provide guidance for research opportunities in this field of studies.El propósito de este artículo es explorar tendencias y patrones de investigación sobre el tema de la gobernanza con énfasis en la gestión del agua en Brasil durante los últimos 20 años y analizar cómo la gestión eficiente de los recursos hídricos puede contribuir al desarrollo regional. El análisis se centró en identificar las principales referencias teóricas y los temas fundamentales abordados en los estudios seleccionados. Con base en el análisis de los artículos publicados sobre este tema, buscamos comprender el papel de la gobernanza en relación con la gestión de los recursos hídricos en Brasil y el papel de la sociedad civil en este proceso. La metodología se caracteriza por una investigación bibliométrica con miras a leer el comportamiento científico del área para formar un diagnóstico sobre publicaciones relacionadas con el tema de la gestión y gobernanza del agua. Los resultados encontrados demuestran que existe un gran interés de la comunidad científica en este area, lo que indica una búsqueda de la profundización del conocimiento y la base conceptual sobre el tema. Por lo tanto, este trabajo busca proporcionar orientación sobre oportunidades de investigación en este campo de estudios.O objetivo deste artigo é explorar as tendências e padrões de pesquisa sobre o tema governança com ênfase na gestão das águas no Brasil nos últimos 20 anos e discutir como a gestão eficiente dos recursos hídricos pode contribuir com o desenvolvimento regional. A análise centrou-se em identificar as principais referências teóricas e as temáticas fundamentais abordadas nos estudos selecionados. A partir da análise dos artigos publicados com essa temática, busca-se compreender o papel da governança no que tange à gestão dos recursos hídricos no Brasil e o papel da sociedade civil nesse processo. A metodologia caracteriza-se por uma pesquisa bibliométrica tendo em vista a leitura do comportamento científico da área para a formação de um diagnóstico sobre as publicações relacionadas ao tema da gestão e governança da água. Os resultados encontrados demonstram que existe um alto interesse da comunidade científica nesta área, sinalizando uma busca pelo aprofundamento dos conhecimentos e da base conceitual sobre o tema.
