Persistence and Dynamics of Intergeracional Mobility of Income na Education in the State of Ceará

Resumo: This article aims to analyze the intergenerational mobility of education and income, seeking to identify its determinants in the state of Ceará in the period 1996 to 2009. The evaluation of the dynamics of intergenerational income and education was done by Markov transition matrices. On the other hand, the dynamic analysis of the determinants of intergenerational income and education was conducted through an ordered logit econometric model. The results suggest that during the study period there was a reduction in educational inequality and income in Ceará. In parallel, there is an increase in intergenerational mobility of income and education characterized by an expansion in average years of schooling, the continuing shrinkage of parents of low income and a sharp decline in educational persistence of illiterate parents. The results of the parametric model indicate that there is a strong influence of geographic location, of the racial and gender aspects, in addition to income and educational attributes of the fathers upon the path of education and income determination of the children.

La evaluación de la dinámica educativa y de ingresos intergeneracional se realizó a través de las matrices de transición de Markov. Por otro lado, el análisis de los determinantes de la dinámica intergeneracional de la educación y el ingreso se realizó utilizando un modelo logit econométrico ordenado. Los resultados sugieren que durante todo el período de estudio hubo una reducción en la desigualdad educativa y de ingresos en Ceará. Paralelamente, hay un aumento en la movilidad intergeneracional educativa y de ingresos caracterizada por una expansión en el promedio de años de escolaridad, una disminución en la persistencia de los padres de bajos ingresos y una disminución notable en la persistencia educativa de los padres analfabetos. Los resultados del modelo paramétrico indican que existe una fuerte influencia de la ubicación geográfica, los aspectos raciales y de género, así como los atributos educativos y de ingresos de los padres en la trayectoria del ingreso y la educación de los niños.O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a mobilidade intergeracional de educação e renda, buscando a identificação dos seus determinantes no estado do Ceará no período 1996 a 2009. A avaliação da dinâmica intergeracional educacional e de renda foi feita através das matrizes de transição markovianas. Por outro lado, a análise dos determinantes da dinâmica intergeracional de educação e renda foi realizada através de um modelo econométrico logit ordenado. Os resultados sugerem que ao longo do período de estudo houve uma redução da desigualdade educacional e de renda no Ceará. Em paralelo, observa-se um aumento da mobilidade intergeracional educacional e de renda caracterizada por uma expansão na média de anos de estudo, retração da persistência de pais de baixo nível de renda e uma sensível queda da persistência educacional dos pais analfabetos.
