In this article we bring radio to the center of the debate on the theme that brings communication and regional development together. We found in the concepts of verticality and horizontality of Milton Santos the theoretical-analytical approach to carry out this study. The objective is to identify the verticalities and horizontalities that are realized in the used territory of the radio in the Taquari Valley, in Rio Grande do Sul, specifically, in the process of spatial distribution of the commercial stations with concession in that region. In the theoretical-methodological field, the concepts of used territory, verticalities and horizontalities dialogue with the studies of the Political Economy of Communication (EPC), also supported by the Geography of Communication. The research is characterized by its qualitative approach. From the analyzes it appears that the verticality vectors stand out in the spatial occupation of the radio territory in the Taquari Valley, initially, from the action of exogenous forces and, in a second moment, with movements within the territory itself, causing the networking and concentration of ownership.
