Resumo: This article discusses the journalistic coverage of political corruption in Brazilian journalism. We could identify an absence of discussion of the phenomenon and a strong tendency to exploit the image of individuals. As theoretical framework, we established a dialogue between ideas in the Platonic philosophy and the notion of journalism’s social responsibility in the discussion of social issues. Then we have applied tools of Critical Discourse Analysis for the analysis of a corpus of four editions of the Brazilian magazines Veja and CartaCapital. At the end, we noticed that the main eff ect of this journalistic performance is the reductionism and the tacit validation of the social structure in which corruption manifests itself. Keywords: journalism, corruption, legalistic and personified coverage.
