Resumo: The objective of this article is to analyze the evolution of the police staffing of the PMSC in the last two decades and half and present short, medium and long-term projections that make it possible to draw panoramas of management and strategic positioning of the Santa Catarina Corporation. The study is quantitative analytical, using appropriate statistical tools, but also qualitative. Data from the period 1994 to 2020, provided by the Directorate of Personnel and the General Staff, were used. The results, presented in the form of tables and comments, in general, point to the existence of deficiencies in the PMSC's staffing and allow some reflections on the impacts that these deficiencies cause in the public security policy of the country.

El estudio es analítico cuantitativo, utilizando herramientas estadísticas apropiadas, pero también cualitativo. Se utilizaron datos del período 1994 a 2020, proporcionados por la Dirección de Personal y el Estado Mayor. Los resultados, presentados en forma de tablas y comentarios, en general, apuntan a la existencia de deficiencias en la dotación de personal del PMSC y permiten algunas reflexiones sobre los impactos que estas deficiencias causan en la política de seguridad pública del país.O objetivo do presente artigo é analisar a evolução do efetivo da PMSC nas últimas duas décadas e meia e apresentar projeções de curto, médio e longo prazos que possibilitem traçar panoramas de gestão e de posicionamento estratégico da Corporação catarinense. O estudo é analítico quantitativo, valendo-se de ferramental estatístico apropriado, mas também qualitativo. Foram utilizados dados do período de 1994 a 2020, fornecidas pela Diretoria de Pessoal e Estado-Maior Geral.
