The objective of this research is to identify the roles performed by managers of incubators and incubated companies, in the light of Mintzberg's studies on the nature of managerial work, as well as to emphasize the administrative functions performed by them. The directors of five incubators located in Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, Brazil and thirteen managers of the incubated companies participated in the study through a structured questionnaire. The results show that the most important roles played by incubator managers are monitor, leader, contact and disseminator. The most cited roles performed by the managers of the incubated companies are the leader, entrepreneur, contact and resource allocator.
