ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF PORT 4.0

Resumo: | As well as in other industries ports and terminals have evolved, entering in a stage of digital transformation and adoption of practices linked to the Industry 4.0 framework. Starting from this, the concept of Port 4.0 was born, which seeks to implement technologies that increase and automate the performance of tasks and enable greater integration of information and processes, such as Big Data, Iot, cloud computing etc. The adoption of these technologies leads to benefits to the port sector such as: increased competitive advantages, gains in sustainability and advances in intermodality between transport modes. Although this issue is currently a hot topic in the sector, the application of Industry 4.0 concepts in the port segment is still recent and little discussed when it comes to socio-environmental management. In this sense, this paper sought to evaluate the implementation of a Port Environmental Performance Assessment system based on the concepts of Port 4.0, combining available technologies, creation of environmental indicators and compliance with applicable legal requirements. As a result, a layout proposal was obtained, segmented into three main consecutive work flows: Planning, IoT/Big Data and Business Intelligence and Analytics. First, the environmental license and its respective environmental conditions were considered, since they represent the environmental aspects most prone to cause negative impacts. Then, the technologies available for automating the parameters studied were listed, proceeding to build an environmental database. The final stage is materialized with the definition of indicators and targets that allow a more effective control of compliance with environmental conditions. In addition, the information obtained can also be displayed in interactive interfaces for internal use or for presentation to environmental/regulatory bodies. In conclusion, despite the socio-environmental theme being incipient in the Port 4.0 context and it’s current technological limitations, there is a potential to start the automation process in this segment. |

De ahí nace el concepto de Puerto 4.0, que busca implementar tecnologías que aumenten y automaticen la realización de tareas y permitan una mayor integración de información y procesos, como Big Data, IoT, Cloud Computing, etc. La adopción de estas tecnologías trae beneficios al sector portuario como mayores ventajas competitivas, ganancias en sostenibilidad y mayor intermodalidad entre medios de transporte. Aunque el tema está en boga actualmente, la aplicación de los conceptos de Industria 4.0 en el sector portuario es aún reciente y poco discutida en lo que se refiere a la gestión socioambiental. En este sentido, se buscó evaluar la implementación de un Sistema de Evaluación del Desempeño Ambiental Portuario basado en los conceptos de Puerto 4.0, combinando tecnologías disponibles, creando indicadores ambientales y cumpliendo los requisitos legales aplicables. Como resultado se obtuvo una propuesta de layout segmentada en tres flujos principales consecutivos: Planificación, IoT/Big Data y Business Intelligence and Analytics. Como punto de partida inicial para el layout se consideró la licencia ambiental y sus respectivas condiciones ambientales, ya que representan los aspectos más propensos a sufrir impacto ecológico. A continuación, se enumeraron las tecnologías disponibles para la automatización de los parámetros estudiados, siguiendo con la construcción de una base de datos ambiental. El layout termina con la definición de indicadores y metas que permitan un control más efectivo del cumplimiento de las condiciones ambientales. Además, la información obtenida también se puede mostrar en interfaces interactivas para uso interno o para presentación a organismos ambientales/reguladores. En conclusión, a pesar de que el tema socio ambiental sea incipiente en el contexto Puerto 4.0 y existan limitaciones tecnológicas, hay potencial en el mercado para comenzar el proceso de automatización en esta área.Assim como outros segmentos industriais, os portos e terminais evoluíram, entrando num estágio caracterizado pela transformação digital e adoção de práticas observadas na Indústria 4.0. A partir disto, deu-se origem ao conceito do Porto 4.0, que busca implementar tecnologias que automatizem a realização de tarefas e possibilitem a integração de processos. Assim, discutiu-se a implementação de um sistema de Avaliação de Desempenho Ambiental pautado nos conceitos do Porto 4.0.
