DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS (DEA) APPLIED TO PORTS: THE STATE OF THE ART

Resumo: Port performance has become a determining factor for the development of the world economy, as maritime transport is the main link in the global logistics chain. In this context, the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method has been used to study the efficiency of port systems and the results support organizational decision making. Thus, this article aims to identify the state of the art on DEA applied to ports. Through a bibliographical survey, fifty-five publications on the application of this method of mathematical modeling in the port sector were registered. Of these, fourteen studied the main world ports and only five focused their analyzes in Brazilian ports, which can be considered as a research gap. In addition, it was found that most of the studies are focused on port systems of containers. Therefore, there is an opportunity to explore the DEA tool for other types of loads.

En este contexto, el método Análisis Envoltorio de Datos (DEA) ha sido empleada para estudio de eficiencia de sistemas portuarios y los resultados ayudan a tomar decisiones organizativas. Así, el presente artículo tiene por objetivo identificar el estado del arte sobre DEA aplicado a puertos. A través de levantamiento bibliográfico, se registraron cincuenta y cinco publicaciones sobre la aplicación de este método de modelado matemático en el sector portuario. De estas, catorce estudiaron los principales puertos mundiales y sólo cinco enfocaron sus análisis en puertos brasileños, lo que puede ser considerado como una laguna de investigación. Además, se constató que la mayoría de los estudios están orientados a sistemas portuarios de contenedores. Siendo así, hay oportunidad de explotación de la herramienta DEA para los demás tipos de carga.O desempenho portuário tornou-se fator determinante para o desenvolvimento da economia mundial, visto que o transporte marítimo é o principal elo da cadeia logística global. Assim, o presente artigo tem por objetivo identificar o estado da arte sobre DEA aplicado a portos. Destas, quatorze estudaram os principais portos mundiais e apenas cinco focaram suas análises em portos brasileiros, o que pode ser considerado como uma lacuna de pesquisa. Além disso, constatou-se que a maioria dos estudos estão voltados para sistemas portuários de contêineres.
