Resumo: Focusing on Turner's painting The Burning of the House of Lords and the Commons, the present essay analyses the effect produced by its pictorial discourse, also discussing the philosophical character of its figurativeness. In other words, this work analyses the plastic quality of verbal manifestations which symbolize a meaning for painting and the world.

Autrement dit, il s’agit d’ analyser la qualité plastique des manifestations verbales qui rendent iconique un sens pour la peinture et le monde.Tomando a pintura O incêndio da Casa dos Lordes e dos Comuns, de Turner, o presente ensaio propõe elucidar o efeito de sentido produzido pelo seu discurso pictórico, observando, ao mesmo tempo, o caráter filosófico de sua figuratividade.
