Resumo: | This work has the main focus on n describing the culture of a group of children a and adolescents with street experience who frequent the same urban location. The research was deveeloped and based on sociology of childhood, symbolic c interactionism and ethnographic boarding tha at has the data which the own research has analyzed. MMoreover, the data has been collected througho out one year of direct observation on the children who o have been assisted by education of Axe project.. The paper discusses how children appropriate the st treet context, seeking to understand how differeent urban areas help to present a way to be chara acteristic of "street children"; it discusses the ways of presenting themselves and the functionaliity of these modes, both in terms of appear rance and language, describing their relationships wit th family and other adults, as these are key actor rs in building a career in the street; it discusses the ca areer in the street, in the defense of which each h child builds his own story, which can not be gene eralized, valuing the culture and knowledge th hat it constructed in interaction with reality to which it belongs. |

Esse trabalho teve como foco principal descrever a cultura de um grupo de crianças em situação de rua e que no período de realização da pesquisa frequentavam assiduamente o mesmo espaço urbano. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida no quadro teórico da Sociologia da Infância, do interacionismo simbólico e da abordagem etnográfica. Os dados foram coletados ao longo de um ano de observação participante junto a crianças atendidas pela educação de rua da ONG Projeto Axé, localizada na cidade de Salvador, Bahia (Brasil). O trabalho discute a forma como as crianças se apropriam do contexto rua, buscando entender como as diferentes áreas urbanas auxiliam na apresentação de um jeito de ser característico dos “meninos de rua”. Discute os modos de apresentação de si mesmos e a funcionalidade desses modos, tanto em relação à aparência quanto de linguagem. Descreve suas relações com a família e outros adultos, como estes atores são fundamentais na construção de uma carreira de rua.
