Resumo: This work aimed to analyze the formation in the Normal School in Alagoas in the imperial period. It also sought to present some reflections about the teacher education in Brazil through the Compendium of Pedagogical Practice by Joaquim José de Araujo. The work was made possible through a methodological operation based on the reading and analysis of primary sources in accordance with the discussions about the history of the teaching profession in Brazil. The Compendium by Joaquim José de Araujo is understood as ideal type formation of teachers governed and obedient to the social order established by the Brazilian elite. Only little by little a more critical teacher training will emerge throughout the country.

Se trata de presentar algunas reflexiones sobre la formación en Brasil por medio del Compendio de Pedagogía Práctica de Joaquim José de Araujo. La realización fue posible vía operación metodológica que se basa en la lectura y análisis de fuentes primarias en consonancia con las discusiones sobre la historia de la profesión docente en Brasil. Comprendemos que el Compendio de Joaquim José de Araujo tenía como tipo ideal la formación de profesores reglados y obedientes a la orden social establecida por la elite brasileña. Sólo poco a poco va a surgir, en todo el país, una formación más crítica de profesores y profesoras. O presente trabalho objetivou analisar a formação na Escola Normal em Alagoas no período imperial. Procurou, também, apresentar algumas reflexões sobre a formação docente no Brasil por meio do Compêndio de pedagogia pratica de Joaquim José de Araujo. A realização do trabalho foi possível via operação metodológica que se baseia na leitura e análise de fontes primárias em consonância com as discussões sobre a história da profissão docente no Brasil. Compreende-se que o Compêndio de Joaquim José de Araujo tinha como tipo ideal a formação de professores regrados e obedientes à ordem social estabelecida pela elite brasileira.
