Resumo: Accidents caused by venomous animals are a public health problem because they threaten the population and can cause sequelae, such as temporary or permanent disability and, in severe cases, death. This study aimed to trace the profile of poisonings by venomous animals treated in a reference center for information and toxicological assistance in Ceará from 2017 to 2021. It is a descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach. The intoxication records of patients who were victims of accidents with venomous animals in Ceará were evaluated. They totaled 17,275 cases caused by venomous animals. The urban area presented most of the occurrences, with 15,630 cases caused mainly by scorpions. Females were the most affected, and the most prevalent age group was between 20 and 59. Most accidents were classified as mild. Thus, it can be concluded that accidents involving poisonous animals are a public health problem, and it is necessary to have more research on the cases of poisoning in the country to reduce the cases of poisonous animals.
