PRODUCTIVE STRUCTURE OF AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK OF BAHIA: A SPATIAL, DIFFERENTIAL AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

Resumo: The modernization of agriculture resulted in substantial changes in the Brazilian rural environment. In this context, the agriculture of Bahia state, Brazil, has undergone many transformations from the 1970s onwards, however the consolidation of the productivist model in Bahia occurred with a delay, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The referred process promoted a reorganization in Bahia agricultural sector with several effects. Thus, it is analyzed the production structure and the sources of growth, taking in account groups of economic activity in the agricultural and livestock sector of Bahia, from 1995 and 2006, by using measures of specialization, regional measures and the shift-share model, to describe of the spatial and structural behavior of agricultural activity in the state. The results present a diversified agricultural and livestock sector but regionally polarized. The structural component is positive, revealing regional specialization in dynamic sectors. On the other hand, the differential components are negative for most regions, revealing an absence of locational advantages in different microregions in Bahia.

Nesse contexto, a agricultura baiana sofreu diversas transformações a partir da década de 1970, no entanto a consolidação do modelo produtivista na Bahia se deu tardiamente, final da década de 1980, iní­cio de 1990. Esse processo promoveu uma reorganização da agropecuária baiana com efeitos bastante diversos. Assim, analisa-se a estrutura produtiva e as fontes de crescimento, por grupos de atividade econômica, do setor agropecuário da Bahia, 1995 e 2006, utilizando-se medidas de especialização, medidas regionais e o shift-share para descrever o comportamento espacial e estrutural da agropecuária na Bahia. Os resultados indicam um setor agropecuário diversificado, mas polarizado regionalmente. O componente estrutural é positivo, revelando especialização regional em setores dinâmicos.
