Objetivos: O objetivo deste estudo clínico paralelo foi avaliar, através de parâmetros clínicos periodontais e microbianos, a eficácia da terapia periodontal OSFMD em indivíduos obesos. Método: Foram incluídos no estudo 82 indivíduos de ambos os sexos com pelo menos 14 dentes, índice de massa corporal superior a 18,5 kg/m2, sem uso de antibióticos ou antiinflamatórios três meses antes do início do estudo. Foram alocados em quatro grupos diferentes: peso normal (n = 18); sobrepeso (n = 21); obesidade I (n = 22) e obesidade II (n = 21). Indivíduos com histórico de tratamento periodontal seis meses antes do início do estudo também foram excluídos. Os exames clínicos e microbianos foram realizados por um único examinador no início do estudo, três e seis meses. Os seguintes parâmetros clínicos foram monitorados: índice de placa (IP), índice gengival (IG), profundidade de sondagem (PS) e nível de inserção clínica (NIC). A carga bacteriana total e os níveis de Treponema denticola (Td), Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Tannerella forsythia (Tf) e Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) foram determinados em amostras subgengival por reação em cadeia da polimerase em tempo real (qPCR). Os dados foram analisados através da análise de variância (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis e Friedman. Resultados: Os dados clínicos, incluindo IP, PS e NCI, reduziram-se aos três meses e mantiveram-se inalterados até seis meses, enquanto o IG só reduziu no grupo de obesidade I aos seis meses. Dados microbianos mostraram que a carga bacteriana total, espécies bacterianas Td e Tf tendem a reduzir ao longo do tempo nos quatro grupos e em todos os tempos de avaliação. Os níveis de Pg reduziram, mostrando uma diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os grupos três meses após a terapia OSFMD. Aa reduziu desde os três meses em todos os grupos. Conclusão: O protocolo terapêutico OSFMD foi eficaz no tratamento da doença periodontal crônica em todos os grupos, sendo assim, a obesidade não influenciou negativamente na resposta à terapia periodontAbstract: Hypothesis of the study: The periodontal therapy designed one-stage full-mouth disinfection (OSFMD) is efficacy to treat obese individuals. Objectives: The aim of this parallel clinical study was to the evaluate, through periodontal and microbial clinical parameters, the efficacy of OSFMD periodontal therapy in obese weight. Methods: Eigty-two individuals of both genders with at least fourteen teeth, body mass index more than 18.5 kg/m2, with no use of antibiotics or anti inflammatory three months before the begning of the study have been included in the present study. They were allocated in four different groups: normal weight (n=18); overweight (n=21); obesity I (n=22) and obesity II (n=21). Individuals with history of periodontal treatment six months before the begning of the study were also excluded.Clinical and microbial exams were performed by a single examiner at baseline, three and six months. The following clinical parameters were monitored: plaque index (IP), gingival index (IG), probing depth (PS) and clinical attachment level (NIC). Total bacterial load and levels of Treponema denticola (Td), Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Tannerella forsythia (Tf) and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) were determined in subgingival samples by real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Data was analyzed by using analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman. Results: Clinical data including IP, PD and and CAL reduced at three months and kept unchanged up to six months while GI only reduced in the obesity I group at six months. Microbial data showed that total bacterial load, Td and Tf bacterial species tended to reduce overtime in four groups and in all evaluation times. P. gingivalis levels reduced showing a statistically significant difference among groups at three months after OSFMD therapy. Aa reduced since three months in all groups. Conclusion: The OSFMD therapy was effective in obeses individuals diagnosed with chronic periodontal disease and no negative impact was observed in quality of responde treatment in the allocated population.Made available in DSpace on 2023-11-09T19:03:58Z (GMT).
