Rural Tourism in farm-hotels: a study of the characteristics of demand and influential factors in the Planalto Serrano and Mid-West regions of Santa Catarina

Resumo: This article presents the results of a study which addresses the characteristics of tourists who practice rural tourism in the Planalto Serrano and Mid-West regions of Santa Catarina, regions where the first initiatives of rural tourism emerged in Brazil, in the middle of the 1980s. The research is in the form of a descriptive study, taking a quantitative perspective, and using statistical methods to analyze the results. This article discusses the characteristics of the tourist profile and the factors that influence tourists in their decision to opt for this type of tourism. The characteristics investigated suggest a more psychocentric profile of the visitors, who are seeking well-consolidated tourism spaces and specialized services, in contrast to what is highlighted in the literature. Contact with nature and quality services are the most significant factors in the choice of this type of tourism destination. Price is not a determining factor in this choice, which may suggest a need for businesses operating in this sector to change their way of thinking. La investigación es un estudio descriptivo, de perspectiva cuantitativa, utilizándose de métodos estadísticos para el análisis de los resultados. En este artículo se discuten las características de perfil y los factores de influencia que llevan a los turistas a optar por ese tipo de destino. Las características levantadas señalan un perfil más psicocéntrico de los visitantes que buscan espacios turísticosconsolidadosyserviciosespecializados,hechoqueevidenciauncontrapuntoaloqueseencuentradestacadoenlaliteratura. El contacto con la naturaleza juntamente con la calidad de los servicios son los factores más significativos en la opción por el destino turístico. El precio no se caracteriza como factor determinante para la elección, lo que puede provocar una alteración en el modo de pensar de las empresas de ese sector. Palabras clave: turismo rural; perfil del turista rural; hacienda hotel; hotel hacienda.Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa que aborda as características do praticante de turismo rural no Planalto Serrano e Meio-Oeste de Santa Catarina, regiões onde surgiram as primeiras iniciativas de turismo rural no Brasil, em meados dos anos 80. A pesquisa é um estudo descritivo, de perspectiva quantitativa, utilizando-se de métodos estatísticos para a análise dos resultados. Neste artigo são discutidas as características de perfil e os fatores de influência que levam os turistas a optarem por esse tipo de destino. As características levantadas sinalizam para um perfil mais psicocêntrico dos visitantes, que buscam espaços turísticos consolidados e serviços especializados, o que evidencia um contraponto ao que é salientado na literatura. O contato com a natureza juntamente com a qualidade dos serviços são os fatores mais significativos na opção pelo destino turístico. O preço não se caracteriza como fator determinante para a escolha, o que pode ensejar uma alteração no modo de pensar das empresas desse setor.
