Resumo: For many years man has been using natural products as an alternative for treating diseases, a practice that continues to the present day. Medicinal plants can be obtained from informal markets and herbal remedies for main use in teas. The way plants are grown and marketed may subject them to the presence of impurities or microorganisms, which may compromise their quality and efficacy. This study aimed to analyze the microbiological quality of medicinal plants marketed in informal markets of Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, qualifying the microbial and fungal presence and verifying the presence or absence of pathogenic microorganisms. The species analyzed were Matricaria chamomilla, Hibiscus sp. and Peumus boldus. Microbiological analyzes were performed in the microbiology laboratory of the Estadio de Juazeiro do Norte Medical School according to the adapted methodologies of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia, 2010. In the tests performed, the presence of mold and yeast in some samples was evidenced It was also found that there was no presence of Salmonella, but the presence of Shiguella was confirmed and in 3 samples the presence of Escherichia coli/Fecal coliforms was confirmed. These results demonstrate the importance of awareness of merchants for better conditions of sale and reinforce the need for greater supervision in favor of consumer health

These results demonstrate the importance of awareness of merchants for better conditions of sale and reinforce the need for greater supervision in favor of consumer healthHá muitos anos o homem utiliza produtos naturais como alternativa para o tratamento de doenças, prática essa que perdura até os dias atuais.
